Was a guest at a Vistage Group yesterday and the leader of the group passed out some great quotes from Elon Musk that will help us all dream a bit bigger.

I know they don’t have a lot to do with finding new agencies, but as I read them, I felt like the thinking/the principles were worthy of consideration for both you, the marketer, and your agency counterparts.

“Failure IS an option here.  If things are not failing, you are not innovating enough.”

(Good one for your agency to impart upon your agency!)

“If something is important enough, even if the odds are against you, you should still do it.”

(You want your agency to be bold and challenge your thinking/the norms!)

“Some people don’t like change, but you need to embrace change as the alternative is disaster.”

(I hope your agency’s pushing change!)

“People work better when they know what the goal is and why.  It is important that people look forward to coming to work in the morning and enjoy working.”

(Clearly communicating with your agency and setting clear expectations will make it more enjoyable for them.  You want them to be excited about working for you!)

“It’s OK to have your eggs in one basket as long as you control what happens to that basket.”

(Focus in any business is key and your agency needs to help you keep that focus and identify the most productive ways to control how you message and who you message to!)

So these weren’t intended to be marketing agency-centric quotes, I felt that they definitely had application and are worth your thinking about your own world and how your agency is living up to them.

If they aren’t and they’re getting a bit stale, then it might be a good time to look.
